Home and the senses

Walk around your home and collect up to three items that you like e.g. a packet of herbs/spices, a bottle of your favourite shower gel, a favourite item of clothing. If you live with someone else, ask them to do the same.

Once you have chosen your item(s), think about the following for each:

a.    What does it look like? What colour is it? What shape is it?

b.    If the item is edible, what does it taste like?

c.     Does it smell of anything? If so, does the smell remind you of something?

d.    What texture is it? What does it feel like? Can it be squeezed?

e.    Does it make a sound? If so, what does it sound like?

f.      Maybe have a go at drawing one of the items with anything you have available, anything that makes a mark. You could use an old toothbrush and some food colouring for example. The drawing does not have to be ‘good’ – if you are concerned with this, perhaps try drawing with your eyes closed to give yourself an excuse!

If you live with someone else, have a chat about the objects you have each chosen and share your reasons for selecting them.
